Students display talent in Middle School Arts Showcase

Our 6th-8th graders showcased their skills in cirque, visual arts, music, and performing arts.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School students in grades 6-8 shared their talents on the Rearden Stage  during the second annual Middle School Arts Showcase on Friday, February 23.  More than 70 students in performing arts, visual arts, and instrumental music classes showcased their work, as well as the after school cirque program.

The seventh-grade performing arts class opened the show with “Bad Auditions by Bad Actors,” written by Ian McWethy. Led by Mr. David Arvold, the sixth-grade introductory band class followed playing four songs — “Hot Cross Buns,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” and “Soft Kitty” from the TV show The Big Bang Theory. Most of these students are learning to play their instrument for the first time. The seventh and eighth-grade band class played “Bach Choral,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” the theme for  “Ice Castles, ” and “Smooth.”

Members of the eighth-grade performing arts class performed excerpts from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Both performing arts classes are under the direction of Mr. Greg McGrath.

Students in the after school cirque program ended the show with their much-anticipated showcase. The Middle School cirque program, led by Ms. Terri Manoogian, runs November through February. The program introduces Middle School students to cirque techniques on a variety of apps. On Friday, cirque students performed on the lyra, aerial silks, and trapeze.

Ms. Kathy Corey's art students also had work on display in the A&T lobby for attendees to view at the show.
