Rabun Gap saw lots of success this winter sports season on the basketball court, on the wrestling mat, and in the pool.

The Middle School boys basketball team made it to the Tri-State Championship game against Highlands School on February 3 in Ritchie Gymnasium.  They made a great run as the #3 seed by upsetting Tallulah Falls in the semi-finals.

Swimming took 12 swimmers to the NCISAA Championship Meet on February 19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.  The boy's team was led by juniors Kacper Kuzimski, Alex Kehoe, and Liam Spoon. Kuzimski placed 22nd in the 200 IM and 20th in the 100 Fly, both season-best times. Kehoe had two personal best times, placing 23rd in the 50 Free and 18th in the 100 Back. Spoon placed 29th in the 100 Back. The team of Sam Poole, Spoon, Justin Gilleland, and Kehoe placed 14th in the 200 Free Relay, scoring 10 points for the boy's team.

On the girl's side, senior, Gavron Campbell swam her last individual race, going to a personal best in the 100 Breast and placed 45th in the NCISAA 3A state. Our girls finished their last event in the top 16 to score points for Rabun Gap. The team of Cindy Shen, Gavron Campbell, Cassidy Hancock, and Alyssa Paynter dropped ten seconds from their previous best time to place 16th in the 400 Free Relay.

Wrestling had 8 young men competing in the NCISAA Championships at Wesleyan Christian Academy. The class of 2020 shined as the Eagles Wrestling team capped off an outstanding season with two bronze medals at the NCISAA 3A State Tournament held at Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, NC) Friday and Saturday.  Leading the way were Quill Martin '20 (170 lb) and Joey Cao '20 (106 lb) who earned third place bronze medals.  Martin also set a new single season record with 41 wins.

The Varsity Boys basketball earned a berth the NCISAA 3A State Tournament, but fell to Charlotte Christian 49-62 February 14.

The Varsity Girls basketball team earned the 6th seed in this year's NCISAA 3A State tournament and won their first round game at home against Metrolina Christian in front of a huge crowd of Ritchie Rowdies. They then upset #3 Ravenscroft 50-32 on the road and earned their spot in the Final Four for the 8th consecutive time. The Lady Eagles then took down Providence Day 40-37 to advance to the state finals where they eventually lost 43-53 to Wesleyan Christian in the championship game.

Congratulations to all the Eagles that competed this winter!
