Lenten journey begins with Ash Wednesday chapel

Students across the divisions are informed about the importance of Lent.
Rabun Gap students and faculty honored Ash Wednesday with special chapel services across all three divisions on February 14.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day season that ends with Easter. During the Ash Wednesday services, attendees were encouraged to reflect upon their mortality, followed by the imposition of ashes.

Chaplain Jeff Reynolds started the school day for the Upper School, speaking about Lent and the journey from Ash Wednesday to Easter.

Middle School Chaplain Mary Demmler, Head of Middle School Steve Nowack, and Lower School Chaplain Andy Chambers, held the Ash Wednesday ceremonies for the Middle School students. The Middle School students were separated in three groups and had interactive ceremonies discussing the meaning of Lent and Ash Wednesday.

The last Ash Wednesday ceremony of the day was for our Lower School students and was led by Chaplains Chambers and Demmler. Using several student speakers and with the help of music, our youngest students were informed about the importance of Lent.
