Students participate in local MLK service

Musicians, basketball players attend celebration in Franklin, North Carolina
More than a dozen students played a part Sunday in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at First United Methodist Church in Franklin. The annual service is sponsored by the Human Relations Council in Franklin.

Rabun Gap musicians began the ceremony with a performance of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," and they also performed “Lift Every Voice.” Members of the varsity boys basketball team also participated later in the program, representing their respective languages. Franklin Mayor Bob Scott also spoke during the service. Students involved in the service were: Simon Park, Phoenix Tate, Christian Klunder, Muya Kahiga, Kacper Kuzimki, Harry Liu, Tomas Butkus, Firat Ceylan, Graham Jump, Mantvydas Jasiunas, Steven Koster, Adama Kpann, Jonathan McFall, Felix Stahl, Miko Stankewicz, Tymon Szymanski, Filip Vuksanovic, Nikola Vuksanovic, and Abba Wague.

Coach Roger Cox said the basketball team has been attending the celebration in Franklin for the past eight years, and that it is organized by the grandparents of alum Dee Washington ‘12.
