Upper School celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Students honored Dr. King's legacy with spoken word, dance, and song.
The Upper School celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday during a special convocation.

The orchestra and choir kicked off the event, followed by readings from Dr. King's most famous speeches by members of the Inclusion Initiative. Several students and classes honored Dr. King's work through dance, spoken word, essays, and language.

Classes involved included: Mrs. Loring's and Ms. Frank's ESL Bridge Class, Madame Shook's French 4 Honors Class, Ms. Valerio's Spanish 4 Honors Class, Mr. Phillips AP Environmental Class , Dr. Chaves' Drama Class, and Dr. Farr's AP Literature Class. The event was organized by Ms. Valerio, Rabun Gap's Director of Equity and Inclusion.

"It is important to memorialize and honor Dr. King's life and contributions to humanity, but we must continue his legacy through thought and action. Our work has only just begun," said Ms. Valerio.
