Rabun Gap holds off Murphy 8-6

Led by the pitching of Jake Knowles, the Eagles collected a big win over the 8-3 Murphy Bulldogs on Saturday.  After allowing 2 unearned runs in the first inning, the Eagles battled back to take an 8-3 lead into the last inning.  Gai Kumamoto and Jordan Hajazin were the only repeat hitters for Rabun Gap.  Kumamoto had a single and a triple, while Hajazin had a single, a double and 2 RBI’s.  Adam Justus drove in 2 runs with two beautifully executed squeeze bunts, but Divontae Murphy had the Eagle’s biggest hit of the day when his 2 out bases loaded double in the third inning cleared the bases.  The Bulldogs made it interesting in the 7th when two hit batters, a walk, and 3 hits cut the lead to 2.  With the bases loaded and one out, Knowles came back into pitch and induced a ground ball for a game ending double play to send Eagle fans home happy.  The win raised Knowles record to 2-0 on the year while the Eagles improved to 4-6.
