Kendall Butler '18 to teach dance in summer Creative Arts Camp

Butler will work with aspiring dancers during the inaugural camp this June.
Kendall is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing (with a concentration in screenwriting) in New York City.  When she is not studying, she is taking dance classes at the Broadway Dance Center, writing, seeing Broadway shows and getting experience on set as a film and television extra.

“Rabun Gap has taught me both time management and work ethic,” said Ms. Butler, “It has given me my love for the performing arts, especially dance and theatre.  I am so excited to be returning to Rabun Gap to be a part of the Creative Arts Summer Programs.  I can not wait to work with the next generation of artists exploring movement, musicality and storytelling through my favorite genres of dance:  Jazz, Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Lyrical.”

“Kendall is a phenomenal performer,” said Sean Lakey,  Head of the Fine and Performing Arts, “In her time here, she was in every musical, cirque show, and dance performance we did, all the way back to her middle school years.  As a junior and senior in high school she was already substitute teaching for Studio Dance Classes in the afternoons.  She has a wonderful teaching style and I am so incredibly grateful that we get to steal her from New York for a couple of weeks.”

Kendall will be teaching Movement and Dance for ages 7-10 and a Contemporary Dance class for ages 11-14.

Creative Arts Summer Programs will run for two weeks in the beginning of June (June 1-5 & June 8-12).  Each week of all-day classes & workshops (9AM - 5PM) will allow students to take a myriad of different types of performance experiences, including dance, drama, music and cirque.  This will culminate in a performance on the Rearden stage each Friday letting the students show off what they have learned over the week.

The cost is $395/week ($370/week if you sign up for both sessions) with lunch provided.  Space is limited and on a first-come / first-serve basis.  Sign up today at www.rabungap.org/creativearts
