Welcome to the Middle School
On any given day as you enter the Middle School you will receive a cheery hello from Ms. Janie as she welcomes you to another day of intellectual challenge and adventure. You plop down on the bean bag chairs to await the arrival of your friends. As the melodious mixture of excited chatter and slamming lockers reaches a crescendo, you find yourself propelled along through the surge of book bags and bodies winding through the kitchen and arriving to your English classroom. Whether you are discussing "A rose by any other name..." in Mrs. Phillips' English classroom, racing to the board for map wars in Mr. Wass' geography classroom, kicking the bottom of the stream to catch bugs as they float into your awaiting nets for Mr. Phillips' science class, learning at Rabun Gap Middle School is an active endeavor. | Be informed: |
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Middle School is like many independent schools fostering academics, embracing both traditional and innovative teaching methods, and focusing on the development of the young, emerging adolescent. We offer programs that will challenge and nurture students as they develop academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We prepare them for the next level of their education.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Middle School is unlike many independent schools because we reside mainly in two houses on a small hill overlooking several hundred acres. The cozy feel of the classrooms invites a comfortable and safe learning environment. Students benefit from the fresh mountain air and pastoral beauty as they travel between classes housed in several other buildings on campus.
The Middle School is composed of grades six, seven, and eight with approximately 85 girls and boys. The average class size is between 12-16 students. Students are scheduled in seven courses rotating throughout the week resulting in each course meeting four times a week.
