Athletic Training Facilities
Rabun Gap features some of the finest outdoor athletic facilities in the Southeast. With over thirteen acres of Bermuda grass fields, a six-lane rubber surfaced competition track, four tennis courts with lights, and carpeted batting cages, Rabun Gap athletes are given every opportunity to pursue their sport or activity of choice.
The Robert D. Johnston Baseball Field is a landmark in northeast Georgia, with its red brick dugouts and press box and Musco lighting system. Rabun Gap basketball teams play their home games in historic Ritchie Gymnasium. Built in 1962, the Ritchie Gymnasium offers a unique atmosphere on game nights as the students and faculty come together to cheer for the Eagles. The swim team trains and competes in the Skinner Natatorium which features a five lane, fifty meter pool as well as spectator seating.
Built in 2001 and renovated in 2010, the backlot practice gymnasium is the hub for athletics and physical activities during the weekday afternoons and weekends. This 9,000 square foot facility features the fitness center, Power Performance weight room, indoor batting cages, and basketball courts. The fitness center is equipped with numerous cardio and Nautilus Nitro machines as well as free weights. The Power Performance weight room was added in 2008 in an effort to give Rabun Gap athletes the finest in Olympic weightraining. This facility features four combination racks, glute-ham machines, and a 45 degree leg drive.
