Head Coach: Roger Cox
Coach Cox is starting his seventh season at Rabun Gap as the head varsity boys' basketball coach and sixth year as the Middle School Dean. He is a graduate of Tavares High School, Toccoa Falls College (B.S. Education), and Troy University (M. Ed Educational Leadership). After playing basketball, baseball, and football in high school, Coach Cox played basketball and baseball at Toccoa Falls College. After playing four years, Coach Cox stayed another year to assist the 1994-1995 women's basketball team.
Since leaving Toccoa in 1995, Coach Cox has been an assistant or head basketball or baseball coach for 14 years including time at Tavares Christian School and Mount Dora High School before joining Rabun Gap in 2006. Mixed into those years, Coach Cox also served as the Headmaster at Blue Lake Academy (2003-2005) and as the dean and Athletic Director at Tavares Christian School (1995-1998).
Coach has seen both team success and success for his players. He has coached over a dozen players who have moved on to the collegiate level. One former player, Solomon Jones, is currently playing his sixth season in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers. He played three seasons for the Atlanta Hawks after being drafted out of the University of South Florida in 2006.
The boys' basketball teams at Rabun Gap have improved their win totals each of Coach Cox's three seasons, including a 2008-2009 record of 17-10 and 18-11 in 2009-2010, and 25-7 in 2010-2011. The 2009-10 season marked Rabun Gap’s first State Tournament appearance in over 35 years.
The boys were CAA runner-up in 2010-2011 for the second year in a row to Christ School, then advanced to the Final Four of the State Tournament before losing for the 4th time in the same season to Christ School (who went on to win their fifth straight State Title and sixth in seven years). 2011 graduate Kaleem Edwards made the All-Conference team for the second time, and senior Dee Washington made the All-Conference team for the first time along with being named to the All-State Team.
The 2011-2012 team looks to build on the success of the past several years in-spite of losing 10 players (9 seniors) from last year's team.
