Thanks to a generous donation from the Gap Connection (parents' association), Rabun Gap launched a new afternoon activity this school year: S.T.E.M. The goal of S.T.E.M. is to foster student interest and ability in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The start-up grant from the Gap Connection allowed students to tackle many exciting projects, including: building a computer gaming network for the grill; 3-dimensional graphics design; creating computer programming mathematical algorithms; programming microcontrollers to control autonomous robots; creating maze solving algorithms for robots; applying the use of sensors; and designing, constructing, and coding an autonomous helium blimp.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School will add Mandarin Chinese to its foreign language offerings in the 2012-2013 academic year. Head of School Dr. Anthony Sgro is excited about the addition of Mandarin Chinese to the School's World Language program. "Our students will graduate from Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and enter a world that is interconnected socially, culturally, and economically," said Sgro. "We want our students to be prepared for global success in all of their ventures. I hope that one day we will see an alumnus using their language skills to relocate a Chinese company to this region."
The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School Sixth Grade Class hosted the Third Annual Rabun Gap Middle School Museum Exhibition today in Mr. Johnathan Bysura's Science classroom. This year's museum theme is our solar system and the creatures that may inhabit it. The event was well attended by faculty, staff, parents, students, and even board members. Mr. Bysura thanks all for their overwhelming support! If you missed the exhibit today, it has been held over by popular demand and will be on display during regular class hours next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (Feb. 13-15), so be sure to stop by!
